Regional Representatives
What is a FRA regional representative (RR)?
In a nutshell, it is someone who actively supports the membership of the FRA, and the Board of Directors, in their region. This person acts as a liaison between the membership and the FRA Board, educating and reaching out to local opportunities to spread the good word about redevelopment.
One of the main functions of the RR is to educate members locally about community redevelopment issues; to strength and advocate for quality revitalization of our communities. Our public relations program is designed to support this task and to make it as easy as possible to share the successes of our membership.
When needed, the RR may be called on to use their networking contacts to support legislative, conference and fundraising support will also be a component of this volunteer position.
The FRA office staff will provide staff support. The FRA Board has allocated $2,000 per year for this purpose in each region. Sponsorships are available to any agency or business who would like to promote their program or services at a FRA regional event.
The regional representative position was created by the Board in 2004 to support members with their challenges and steer them to the right place within the FRA or elsewhere to get them resources, or answer their questions.
What is the time commitment?
The regional representative (RR) should locate a site and date for at least two local membership meetings per year. The purpose of this meeting is to gather FRA members and non members alike, to identify resources and network with each other. The RR will attend one FRA Board meeting (at the FRA annual conference) in order to stay abreast of FRA goals and activities. The RR will need to participate in a monthly conference call.
Communication is encouraged using the website, FRA publications, PR consultants, the “Florida Downtown Clips”, committee meetings and Board meeting agendas. We encourage the RR to utilize all of FRA’s services to its members to support regional communication with and among FRA members in any region. The regional representative system is designed to allow members who do not have the time to commit to a Board position, or who cannot travel four times a year, to be very active in the association. Another level of commitment is to be on a committee and assist on a more task oriented/limited basis. Our committees are: membership, legislative, conference, housing, fundraising, certification, and education and outreach. For further information, contact a member of the FRA Board or Carol Westmoreland at 850-701-3608.
Please note that if you would like to include your event in this section, you may send the announcement via e-mail to Jan Piland at jpiland@flcities.com. This is a free service to members.
